DNTT 1: Introduction to Early Childhood Education

 

Meaning, Scope, Need, Importance, Aims and Objectives of Early Childhood Education/ Nursery Education. Salient features of early childhood education, Foundations of early childhood Education programme. Approaches to early childhood education with special reference to Froebel’s kindergarten approach; The Montessori approach, Integrated Child development services (ICDS), Aganwadi and Balwadi, Role of United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Pre School Education

 

DNTT 2: Child Development

 

Introduction to child care and development, basic concepts in child development, principles of child development; Factors influencing child development: Heredity and environment, maturation and learning, Intelligence, Emotional and Social factors, health and nutritional status of children, Stages of development with special reference to Early childhood (3-6 years of age): , physical, motor, language, cognitive, social and emotional development of children, Importance of play in child’s physical, motor, language, cognitive and socio emotional development

Safety Signs & Color at Work: Safety Signs – Cause for accidents, Safe attitudes; Safety Signs

& Colour- Sign categories, Sign types.

First Aid & Artificial Respiration: First Aid – Introduction, first aid and Its aim, Recovery position, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Wound, Shock, Convulsion, Extensive burns, Minor burns and scalds, Chemical burns, Electric shock, Fracture, first–aid box; Artificial Respiration – Respiration, Artificial respiration, Mouth to nose method of artificial respiration, Artificial respiration in case of cardiac arrest, Important points to note after giving artificial respiration to victims.

Safe Lifting and Carrying Techniques: Causes of injury, Types of injury and methods to prevent them, Points that make an objects/load difficult to carry, Preparation before lifting or shifting heavy loads, Correct body posture before beginning the lift in kinetic method of lifting, Manual lifting techniques using kinetic method, shifting of working tables, Shifting of electronic equipments/instruments, Basic steps of safe lifting and handling.

Fire and Fire Extinguishers: Fire, Fuel, Heat, Oxygen, Controlled and uncontrolled fire, Controlling and extinguishing fire, Fire extinguishers, Types of fire extinguisher – water-filled extinguishers, foam, extinguishers, dry powder extinguishers, carbon dioxide type extinguishers, halon extinguishers, General procedure to be adopted in the event of a fire.

Safe Working Measure: Electric shock, action and treatments; Hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control; Workstation layout and ergonomic guidelines.

Managing Health and Safety at Work: Introduction, General office safety, Types of office accidents, Office hazard control, Office environment, Hazards from electrical equipments, Office safety procedures, Emergency action plan.

Personal Hygiene: Introduction, how to maintain good hygiene, how to ensure food safety, Grooming, what are the consequences of not maintaining good hygiene?

Public and Home Safety: Introduction, Safety at home, Activities that have a potential for accidents, Things that are normally used at home and have a potential for accidents, Public safety, Prevention.

 

Common Food Borne Diseases and Infections: Introduction, The Farm – beginning of the food chain, Food processing-preventing food-borne illness and improving quality, Transport and storage–safeguarding food, Food safety and retailing, Food safety in the home, Food borne diseases.

 

DNTT 4: Motivation and Learning

 

Concept of Motivation; Factors affecting motivation for learning; Motivating young children for learning;

Learning- Concept of Learning; Psychology of learning, Process and outcomes of Learning, Types of learning; Factors affecting learning: Factors associated with learner’s learning experiences and factors associated with men and material. Teacher’s role in making young children learn, Learning Physical and Motor skills: significance, concept of motor skill learning and process. Language learning: Importance of language learning, stages of language learning, reinforcement and imitation, learning language skills.

Awareness to Learning difficulties among young children: Visit to school, recognition/ identification of learning difficulties, acceptance of variability among children, Utilizing referral services

Arts and crafts as sources of learning, creativity and imagination (Activities) Any Five

  • Exploring and appreciating different art forms as innovative tools (visual and performing arts) not only cutting and
  • Encourage children to explore and experience variations in color, shape, textures in nature and (like flowers, leaves) and others
  • Activities to create art forms like drawings using crayons, water colors providing enough flexibility to children and encouraging art as a medium of expression
  • Identify changes in drawings as children grow, encourage children to talk about their
  • Children’s orientation to play
  • Developing and involving children in activities for both indoor and outdoor play
  • Use of sand and water to involve children in play
  • Development and use of recyclable and reusable play material
  • Create a “props corner” like a basket of chunni, bags, spectacles, magazines etc

DNTT 5: Pedagogy for Nursery Education

 

Child centered approach: Activities for physical and motor development, social and emotional development, developing positive self concept, Activities for cognitive development, Language development. Art Education for the preschool child plays materials and their use for the education of preschool child. Fostering development of cognitive skill.

 

Other activities: Festivals, Field trips, nature walk, indoor and outdoor games

PRACTICUM:

  • Observation of infants while providing them with visual and sensory stimulation (toys, pictures, different shapes and textures), Auditory (natural sounds like clap, conversations) and kinesthetic experiences (movements)
  • Development of aids, play material for sensory
  • Engage children in physical activities for developing and involving children to enhance loco motor skills like jumping, hopping, balancing, climbing, throwing, kicking,
